Being a Business Owner comes with its own set of challenges- issues with Clients, tight deadlines, financial struggles, feeling like you're always "on the clock"; but for Entrepreneurs who also struggle with anxiety, the pressures can feel even heavier. Between balancing the demands that come with running a business, your personal life, and your mental health, it isn't easy, but it's not impossible. The fact is, with the right tools, you can thrive in all areas. When you turn your anxiety from a hinderance into a tool for growth; you can do amazing things!
Personal Experience What I have learned is, anxiety is a response to stress and situations that may be going on around you. For business owners, this anxiety often comes from uncertainties about finances, worrying about failure, not getting paid by clients, stress about meeting deadlines, working on tasks you may not enjoy, or even stress about where the future of your business is heading. Something to think about- entrepreneurship is filled with uncertainty; that's just par for the course of choosing to be an Entrepreneur. This alone can create anxiety which can leave you feeling overwhelmed.
Last week, I had a moment where it hit me; I started thinking "maybe having anxiety has its benefits". Now, you may be reading this and thinking "it definitely doesn't have its benefits, or Amanda, you're wrong about that." As someone that has been dealing with anxiety for probably almost a year now; I've constantly found myself thinking of the bad ways it affects me- the feelings in the chests, the occasional dizziness, the anxious thoughts, etc. What I hadn't thought of ,until last week, was how it could be turned into a positive thing.
I was sitting in my office last week, on a day that I was just feeling extremely anxious-it felt like I just couldn't get the anxious feeling out of my chest, when suddenly I had a change in my thoughts. That day was the first day that I could finally see how the anxiety feeling that I had been having that week; could be turned into a positive feeling. I had spent hours that day working on the data transferring, it was a task that I really didn't need to have done that day, but I managed to actually get it all done (quite a large task). So you may be wondering, why did I feel that I had to get it done that day? The truth is- I knew I didn't have to get it done that day, but in my head, I knew that if I didn't get it done that day; that it would start to bother me. Just the thought that it would be so close to being completed, but not completely done. As soon as I got that done; I actually felt so much better!
If you are someone that deals with anxiety; I would like to invite you to leave a comment on this blog, and let me know one thing that helps you deal with your anxiety.
